While the university and many of its departments were making cuts due to a decrease in financing from the state, the Ball State athletics department received additional funding for this school year.

The university gave the athletics department about $250,000 more than it had the previous school year, according to a document obtained through Indiana Access to Public Records Act. The projected budget increased by more than $1 million when compared to last year’s projections.

Athletic director Tom Collins said the increase was partially due to increases in travel costs and that the department does the best it can with the resources it has.

“I think everybody could use more money,” Collins said. “I think we do the best that we can with the resources we got. If you would ask all the coaches, everybody could use some more resources.”
